Celtic coach Gavin Strachan scouted Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull in Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match against Hibernian, The Scottish Sun has reported.
Turnbull almost joined the Scottish champions in the summer of 2019, in a £3.25m deal, before a failed medical wrecked his move and put him on the sidelines at the Steelmen for months.
Now returning to top form, the paper reports that Strachan was in attendance at Easter Road at the weekend, with the brief of watching Turnbull in action prioritised ahead of general opposition scouting.
The outlet states there is now an increasing likelihood that Neil Lennon returns for the Scotland U21 international.
Turnbull was impressive against Hibs, with BBC Sportsound pundit Michael Stewart, 67 Hail Hail writer David Walton and Bhoys supporters singing his praises.
Also on target for Motherwell last week against Livingston, there are signs that Turnbull’s injury hasn’t had a massive impact on the talent and potential that Celtic were willing to invest in.
This year’s transfer deadline isn’t until October 5th so there is no rush when it comes to a pursuit of the 21-year-old.
However, given the heavy interest in him last year before he decided on Celtic, perhaps the club should think about committing to the player sooner rather than later.
Norwich City were also in for the midfielder, with Turnbull even heading south to visit their facilities before making his mind up on a switch to the Scottish champions.
We don’t need another saga like that if Lennon is again interested and hopefully there’s some progress on this one soon.
