The Daily Record are reporting Swedish sources which indicate the Carl Starfelt to Celtic move is ‘imminent’.
Imminent in newspaper speak can mean a lot of things. In this context, I’m taking it that the situation is progressing and that he’s likely to become a Bhoy at some point between now and early next week.
Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for the Rubin Kazan man over the last week.
Swedish journalist Anel Advic told 67 Hail Hail that Celtic have been showing concrete interest in the player for a while now. He reckoned there was a good chance he’d be playing in Glasgow this season.
The Record say the move will cost £4m, with part of the fee due to his old club IFK Goteborg.
Russian football outlet Russian Football News reported last night that Starfelt had missed a pre-season training session yesterday, potentially indicating that the Swede is on the verge of his Celtic move.
As of yet, there’s been no real indication that Starfelt has arrived in the country.
It’s also unclear what kind of quarantine he’d have to go through and how long it’d take for him to be available.
Celtic play Midtjylland in the Champions League in 11 days time. It increasingly looks like any incoming signings won’t be here in time.
Even if they signed now, they’d have to integrate into the squad and the tactical work that Ange Postecoglou has already done with the players over the last couple of weeks.
Still, the earlier we complete deals the better. There are many important games this summer beyond the Danes.
