Celtic defender Josip Juranovic is on the verge of an exit to Bundesliga side Union Berlin, Fabrizio Romano has reported this evening.

The transfer journalist states that talks between the clubs are at a very advanced stage, as are the player negotiations with Union.

Juranovic has long been touted for a departure from Glasgow this season – transfer rumours have followed him around since well before the Qatar World Cup.

It seems, with the language used in Romano’s report, that he could have played his last game for the Bhoys – especially if he doesn’t feature tomorrow against Greenock Morton.

Earlier today, Ange Postecoglou suggested progress had been made on deals in and out of the club, so this certainly marries with that as much as the Celtic boss didn’t go into specifics.

Juranovic has made 53 appearances for the Bhoys in total and became a key component of last season’s title-winning side.

This season, Postecoglou trusted him with starts in all six Champions League group-stage matches before the Croatian went off to impress at the World Cup.

The Bhoys signed Alistair Johnston to guard against his potential exit, with Anthony Ralston also still at the club and competing well in the position.

In that context, Juranovic’s exit won’t hit too hard despite him being something of a fan favourite amongst the support. Many have been resigned to the fact he wouldn’t have a lengthy Celtic career.

Union Berlin finished fifth in the German top-flight last season and are again vying for a European position this term, also set to compete in the UEFA Europa League knockout stage, so Juranovic could have plenty to look forward to.

Let’s see how the next few days pan out!
