Report: Midfielder told he can leave Celtic; contract expiring

Celtic midfielder Ewan Henderson has been told he can leave the club, The Scottish Sun reports.

The Academy graduate’s contract expires at the end of the season and it seems there is no hope of a renewed deal.

Henderson has been a bit-part player for quite a while at Celtic, including under Ange Postecoglou. However, he did impress off the bench against Real Betis last month, even scoring a dramatic goal to aid the 3-2 win.

The young midfielder broke into the Celtic first-team in early 2019, providing fresh energy at the tail-end of Brendan Rodgers’ reign and the beginning of Neil Lennon’s return.

However, he’s gone on to make just 12 appearances in total, four of which have been starts. It’s easy to see why Celtic would be hesitant to commit to a new long-term contract after loan spells at Ross County and Dunfermline.

Henderson is likely to land on his feet though. Shaun Maloney’s Hibernian have been credited with an interest, while The Scotsman reports he is also open to an Italian move like his brother Liam.

The 21-year-old does have talent in my opinion. It’s just about finding him the right manager and the right club where he can play regular week-to-week football. That isn’t coming at the Bhoys any time soon.

With the arrival of another attacking midfield option in Reo Hatate, Henderson’s opportunity for minutes has only decreased over the last few days.

Hopefully, he finds a good move and can go on to impress!
