Celtic target Barry Douglas looks set to opt for a stay in England after advanced signing talks between Watford and Leeds United, The Daily Mail reports.

It was reported by Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph back in August that Douglas was ‘high up’ on Celtic’s shortlist of Boli Bolingoli replacements.

The Daily Mail now reports that the Scottish champion did enquire about signing the Leeds left-back but that he was initially keen to remain part of Marcelo Bielsa’ Premier League plans.

He wasn’t in their squad to face Manchester City in top-flight tonight, however, with talks between Championship side Watford and Leeds said to have ‘intensified’.

Douglas has just eight months left on his contract and would have been an experienced addition to Neil Lennon’s squad, competing with Greg Taylor on the left flank of the manager’s 3-5-2 formation.

The news comes as reports go quiet on Alfie Doughty and other targets, such as Casper Hojer, have poured cold water on a transfer move.

Even Ryan Sessegnon, who has only been linked with a Scottish switch recently, looks destined to move elsewhere (Sky Sports).

It leaves the club scrambling a bit for a left-wing option ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Hopefully though the recruitment team have a few aces up their sleeve and we see a quality arrival.

In other news, Neil Lennon has hinted at game time for Griffiths, Rogic and Turnbull ahead of tomorrow’s trip to St Johnstone.
