Ross Doohan officially returned to Celtic last week.

The Scotland international goalkeeper was announced by the Parkhead club just over a week ago after Scott Bain left Celtic to join Falkirk.

Doohan returns to Paradise after permanently leaving the club in 2022. Prior to his Celtic exit, the 27-year-old bounced around six clubs whilst on loan but never made a single first-team appearance for the Hoops.

Now back at Celtic, Doohan has revealed who instigated the return and how long it took him to agree to return to Paradise.

The Celtic backroom man who made Ross Doohan’s return happen

Doohan joins Celtic on a three-year deal and will likely be Brendan Rodgers’ third-choice ‘keeper. But it wasn’t the Celtic manager who instigated the move.

Doohan told Celtic TV, “I just got a text from Woodsy [Celtic goalkeeper Stevie Woods] asking if I was free to speak on the phone and I spoke to him that afternoon.

“The phone call lasted two minutes. I’d say just general chat for a minute and then he just asked the question, ‘Would you be interested in coming back?’ and I think I answered yeah before he even finished the question.

“So that’s how it really came about. And then as soon as I heard that I was just eager to get the deal done as soon as possible.”

Ross Doohan’s career before agreeing Celtic return

Doohan has had a bit of a nomadic football career since 2015. Here is a list of the clubs and league appearances the Scotland goalkeeper spent on loan whilst still at the club during his first spell.

Doohan eventually left Celtic to join Tranmere permanently in 2022 before moving on to Forest Green Rovers in January 2023 and then to Aberdeen in August the same year.
