Celtic transfer target Hyun-jun Yang is desperate to seal his dream move to Scotland this summer and has made a startling pledge highlighting the strength of his desire.
Major South Korean outlet Kyunghyang Shinmun is carrying quotes from the player indicating he would even give a portion of his salary to current club Gangwon FC to push through the move.
The player is reported to have said: “If the transfer fee isn’t enough, I’ll even give my salary. I want to go to Celtic this summer. I hope Gangwon will allow me to transfer.
“My father and agent have asked for a meeting several times, but CEO Kim Byung-ji is not giving time. It is not an easy opportunity to get an offer in Europe.
“My colleagues and seniors from other teams also tell me to go to Europe. I don’t think about staying in Gangwon right now.”
The transfer fee negotiated between the two clubs is not thought to be an issue. Kyunghyang Shinmun reports that a deal in the region of £2.1m has already been agreed, with a 12% sell-on clause included.
However, Gangwon do not want to let him go mid-season and would prefer that he makes the move to Scotland during the January transfer window. Clearly, the South Korean youth international has other ideas.
The 21-year-old plays as an attacking winger and has already made 69 senior appearances for his club, scoring nine goals and assisting five more.
Celtic have already signed Marco Tilio as a squad option on the flanks this summer and Yang would add even more depth. However, with star players such as Jota on the brink of an exit, more quality signings are expected later this summer even if this Korean deal goes through.
In other news, The first Celtic transfer record of the summer could be challenged shortly.
