The fee Celtic are about to receive for Jota is going to challenge the record £25m fee received from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney in 2019, multiple outlets and journalists have indicated.
Renowned transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has stated that Jota’s sale will generate in the region of €30m (£25.76m), while The Sunday Mail [02/07 print edition, back page] has also reported that the club will bank a full £25m from the deal which has been agreed with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad.
At the very least, it’s in the same ballpark and demonstrates just how valued some of our top stars are in the current market. We should hopefully find out the finer details of any agreement over the next week when things are finalised.
The incoming Celtic transfer record is also at risk
It’s not the only Celtic transfer record we could see matched or beaten this summer either. The incoming record has a good chance of falling if the noises coming from the club are followed through on.
Celtic signed Odsonne Edouard in 2018 for a club-record fee of £9m [Sky Sports], which has remained in place for the last five years despite players such as Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers arriving from cash-rich clubs.
With Celtic heading for a record turnover, Brendan Rodgers apparently promised a large transfer budget and the club planning to hand him much of the Jota profit for investing in the squad – everything points to Celtic equalling or surpassing that £9m mark over the next couple of months.

Who that player, or players, might be is anyone’s guess right now. Celtic have already completed deals for Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio, but rumours and reports on others have been mostly limited to forum posts and social media noise.
With all areas of the squad ripe for improvement, it could be an exciting few weeks for supporters as the club get down the business of preparing Rodgers’ squad for the the treble defence and UEFA Champions League group stage.
