Celtic have been linked with a move to sign Tottenham left-back Ryan Sessegnon on loan. The Herald is reporting that the Hoops are one of four clubs that are interested in signing the player.
It might not be easy for Celtic to sign the player. After all, the other clubs reportedly interested are Southampton, Brighton and Leeds.
Played together at Fulham
We might all think that Celtic are bigger than any of those clubs, but a player who plays in England might not think that. However, Celtic could have a trump card to play in getting Sessegnon to Glasgow. That is, that one of Sessegnon’s teammates at Fulham had a successful spell at Celtic – Stefan Johansen.
Johansen was a key member of Ronny Delia’s time at Celtic Park. He was so influential, that he was named as Scotland’s player of the year in 2015.
Now he can be influential off the pitch by helping to persuade Sessegnon to join Celtic. Johansen joined Fulham when he left Celtic, and one of the players he played with was Sessegnon.
“One of the top left-backs in the world”
In fact, he was very impressed with the left-back. Back in 2017, Johansen told the Evening Standard that he was “99 per cent certain he (Sessegnon) will be one of the top left-backs in the world”.
That might not have happened yet. However, the player did earn a £25m move to Tottenham last summer. However, since then Sessegnon has found first-team appearances hard to come by.
That means that he is set for a move away from Spurs, and Celtic could give him the first-team football that he is looking for.
If Sessegnon is wanting to know what kind of club Celtic are, he only needs to speak to Johansen. Johansen could inform the Spurs man just how big a club Celtic are, and how every game is important.
He could also stress how important this season is to Celtic fans, and that if Sessegnon helps the Hoops win 10 in a row he will become a legend.
Hopefully Johansen can help Sessegnon make the move to Celtic Park.
In other news, Celtic loanee Jonathan Afolabi scored on his Dundee debut.
