Sydney van Hooijdonk could follow in his dad’s footsteps and don the colours of Celtic if rumours are to be believed.
From the summer and now continuing during the January transfer window, Celtic’s name has been talked about alongside the striker from Bologna.
The son of Bhoys legend Pierre, it would be nostalgic for many supporters if they get to see another van Hooijdonk at Parkhead.
Well, the 23-year-old has spoken about his future and dropped in some interesting comments, as quoted by The Daily Record.
Sydney van Hooijdonk has probably hinted that a January move could be possible because he hasn’t ruled anything out and stated ‘I know that there has been a lot of talk about it’.
Operating as a striker, he would tick the box of another number nine being brought in by Brendan Rodgers because there has been a lot of debate about that.
The 23-year-old recently started for Bologna during their 2-1 defeat to Cagliari, but overall, he has started only four games in all competitions.
Sydney van Hooijdonk to Celtic
“My future? I don’t know, for me now the most important thing is this match, but I know that there has been a lot of talk about it,” said van Hooijdonk.
“It will probably be like this in the next few weeks too, but I’m stopping focused on myself because this is my chance. Now I want to score and win. Then we’ll see how football goes, it’s like this, in football, everything can change quickly.”

Celtic’s striker talk
The forward area is being added to by Celtic, with the imminent arrival of Nicolas Kuhn.
The surprising thing about this is that he is a winger, so it has to be questioned if that is an area that needed more numbers because it’s pretty full as it is.
The same could be said for the number nine. Yes, Kyogo Furuhashi isn’t hitting the big numbers, but as he proved against Rangers, he is stepping up in those big moments.
Is a van Hooijdonk going to take his place? No. But many will argue about Hyeongyu Oh, who is currently on international duty.
But what needs to be remembered about the South Korean star is that he is only 22 and playing as a back-up, so patience and understanding is needed in that sense.
