The Arsenal Kieran Tierney stance that could encourage late Celtic transfer move

Arsenal are open to offers for former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney this summer, according to a report.

Tierney has endured a rough start to the season with the Gunners, failing to make the match day squad for either of their opening two Premier League clashes.

The feeling seems to be that the Scotland international will look to exit the club this month in search of regular game-time.

Celtic haven’t actually been credited with an interest in Tierney during the summer window. However, it was reported in June that the left-back would consider a loan return to his boyhood club.

Brendan Rodgers has also been asked about his former charge on more than one occasion so this is a real talking point out and about.

Football London have reported the latest stance from Arsenal in regards to Tierney. They say that the club are open to offers with sporting director Edu watching over proceedings.

However, the report also says that Arsenal would prefer a permanent deal. In fact, Edu is actively trying to ensure that any loan move would have an obligation to buy at the end of it.

That would seem to make any move to Celtic difficult at this juncture. We simply don’t have the funds to sign Tierney permanently having sold him for £25m in 2019. (BBC)

But a potential positive scenario could be things changing as we get closer to the September 1 deadline, if Celtic are encouraged to make a late move.

Knowing Tierney, he will surely be keen to get out and play. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta clearly doesn’t see him as a first-team player right now. If we can take-on a healthy percentage of his wage then maybe a loan deal could work for all parties.

It would be an immense boost to us if a deal could be sorted. But let’s not get away from the fact that it still seems extremely unlikely at this point.
