‘The best move’ – Celtic fans are excited by what they are hearing about Daizen Maeda

There isn’t a more important player right now at Celtic than Daizen Maeda.

The quality was always there with the Japan star, but in recent times, he has taken things to a much higher level and perhaps surprised some with his performances.

When Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final in December at Hampden, you could have argued, at the time, that Nicolas Kuhn was the Player of the Season, even though Maeda netted the winning penalty.

But, ever since Kyogo Furuhashi headed for the exit door, and the club opted against replacing him during the Janury transfer window, the man who took on that goalscoring pressure was Maeda.

From Champions League games to Premiership action, he just can’t be stopped and Brendan Rodgers has played a big part in the progression of the Ange Postecoglou signing.

But with that goalscoring success comes a lot of transfer interest from the outside and Celtic are doing everything they can to deal with that.

Celtic fans react to the club set to offer Daizen Maeda a new contract

Maeda recently spoke about his future and he honestly admitted that he was ‘unsure’ about his long-term stay in Glasgow.

That’s not what you want to hear if you are of a Celtic persuasion, so it isn’t a surprise that a report has emerged that Maeda is to be offered a bumper new contract.

As you can imagine, the Celtic Park faithful are excited by this prospect and think it could be huge in a lot of aspects.

@Pmcc43766292 went bold: ‘A new contract and he will end, the best since Henrik debate. Daizen will eclipse records’.

@Bigrobbocfc67 wants Maeda rewarded: ‘He deserves the highest salary in the country’.

@Sme51899360 continued that theme: ‘The wages of 2 men…..’

@KieranG1967 added: ‘Best since The King debate is over if he stays’.

@minimark3324 wants Maeda to stay forever: ‘Lifetime contract hopefully’.

@Stephen53704822 is thinking long-term: ‘This we need to do and do it right, no cutting corners, haggling over a couple grand a month – get him signed up long term KT in the door, new quality additions in CB, DCM, Winger & Striker and lets have a party in the Champions League’.

@Sean_H1888 was clear: ‘Sign him up for life!’.

@BoxOfficeBrodge wants Maeda rewarded: ‘Give him whatever he wants he deserve the best and only the best what a player absolutely adore him’.

@Bricky67_ thinks it will be the best move of the summer: ‘The best move we’ll make all season, the best player in that squad by a country mile and fully deserves whatever he wants on that new contract’.

@huell_2 says give Maeda whatever he wants: ‘Have him write the number he wants He’s that integral’.

Maeda’s career stats for Celtic

Maeda hasn’t just gone goal crazy in the Premiership, but he also netted four in the Champions League and that would have caught many teams’ eyes.

But all Celtic can do is react to that by offering a new deal to the player and hope that he signs on the dotted line.

If he does that, then everyone in green and white colours will be in for a treat in the years to come and perhaps he can raise hit bat and hit the 100 goals mark.
