Luis Palma has flown to Scotland to sign for Celtic this week.

The Honduras international is widely understood to be joining the club with the move set to be concluded in the coming days. In recent times, we’ve had news of a fee being agreed, comments from his father confirming the deal and even snippets about Emilio Izaguirre playing a part in proceedings.

Now, the latest update is that Palma has travelled from Greece to Scotland. That news was actually shared by his boyhood club Vida.

The Liga Nacional side tweeted an image of Palma boarding a plane on Monday evening, including the caption: “Our bug is heading to Scottish lands. We wish you much success.” (Translated, @cdsvidaoficial on Twitter)

Alongside their reporting of that update, the Daily Record also shared some more news including Celtic‘s immediate hopes for Palma.

They say that Hoops chiefs are hoping to race through sorting out a work permit and international clearance for the winger. That’s because the club want Palma in training in the lead-up to Sunday’s derby against Rangers.

From that, we can only assume that Palma has a chance of featuring in that match if he’s signed on time. He’s been playing for Aris Thessaloniki this season so there should be no issues with his condition.

We’re in dire need of a bit of a spark at present. Sometimes new signings can be thrust in to these major matches and perform well, almost as if they’re that new in the door that they’re shielded from all of the baggage associated with the fixture.

For a recent example of that, we only need to look at Alistair Johnston. The Canadian made his Celtic debut at Ibrox at the start of the year. Johnston had been signed a number of weeks before but the same principle applies.

From where we’re stood, getting Palma in and ready to play for Sunday seems like an equally good move. It would certainly make for an interesting afternoon. Let’s see how things play out.
