Reports in Portugal suggest that Jota has made up his mind to become a Celtic player next season.

Newspaper A Bola have reported this weekend that only a “huge turnaround” would prevent him from playing in the green and white hoops after the summer.

As we’ve known for a while, Celtic have already notified Benfica of their intention to activate the purchase option in his loan, but it all depends on whether the player himself wants to stay in Glasgow.

Apparently enjoying his spell playing for the Bhoys, A Bola say Jota has decided he will say yes to Celtic.

It means the Bhoys will sign him for a fee of €7.5m, which exchanges to around £6.35m by today’s rate. That’s not an insignificant sum, but worth it to keep him a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

A Bola believe that Benfica will retain a 30% sell-on clause too, making the deal easier to swallow from their perspective.

Jota had a great season in Celtic colours, scoring 13 goals and assisting 14 more in all competitions.

Encouragingly, he was also in good form during our Europa League campaign, with four of his goal contributions coming in the group stage.

That suggests he can step up another level again next season, especially after making a permanent home in Scotland.

Fingers crossed we hear more formal news on this before too long. His signing would be another huge morale boost for the support and indicate Celtic mean business this summer.
