The last Celtic transfer target who joined Norwich City had a nightmare he wants to forget

You sense an air of frustration building at Celtic.

Back in the winter, Kyogo Furuhashi left Celtic and joined Rennes, and the champions of Scotland didn’t replace the Japan star.

Since then, Kyogo has moved again, and Brendan Rodgers is still waiting for that senior striker to land on his doorstep as he prepares for the new Premiership season.

One man who has been heavily linked with Celtic is Mathias Kvistgaarden, as the Denmark star did secure a move to British soil, but to English Championship side, Norwich City.

The last striker linked with Celtic who joined Norwich City

The surname van Hooijdonk is synonymous with Celtic because Pierre donned the famous green and white colours in the mid-90s.

With the Dutchman now retired, his son Sydney, is trying to make a name for himself in the game, and he was linked with Celtic in January 2024.

A move didn’t materialise, as Sydney ended up securing a loan to Norwich City, but it didn’t go as planned for the 25-year-old.

There was a section of Celtic supporters annoyed they didn’t sign Kvistgaarden because they felt they are missing out on another striker target.

But this is where there should be patience and trust in Rodgers, as well as the Celtic board, because van Hooijdonk’s spell at Carrow Road is an example that not everything works.

Norwich have been trying to get out of England’s second tier for some while now, and during his short stint in England, he didn’t just fail to score, but he wasn’t trusted to earn many minutes either.
