Celtic are set to be busy in the transfer market this summer as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen for the season ahead.
The Celtic manager had a painful end to this season after the Hoops lost to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup at the weekend.
With a tricky Champions League qualifier to negotiate, Brendan Rodgers must ensure his transfer business is done early if Celtic want to get into the lucrative group stages once again.
And it seems the Hoops boss is set to make his first summer addition as Celtic close in on a free transfer deal.

Ross Doohan set free summer transfer return to Celtic
The Daily Record reports that former Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan is ‘set’ to leave Aberdeen for free at the end of the season to rejoin the Hoops.
The Pittodrie ‘keeper has struggled to stake a claim in Jimmy Thelin’s first team starting line up and it appears that he is now ready to come back to Celtic after leaving the club just before Rodgers’ return.
Doohan has enjoyed a spell at Tranmere Rovers where he made 60 appearances, Forest Green Rovers with 19 first team outings and then with Aberdeen where he made just 20 appearances for the Pittodrie club.
Clearly Doohan isn’t going to be Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper with Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo still at the club so why does Brendan Rodgers want to bring the 27-year-old stopper back to Parkhead?
Scott Bain’s potential Celtic exit opens door for Doohan return
The report states that Celtic are ‘expected’ to allow Scott Bain to leave the club as his seven-year stay in Paradise looks set to come to an end.
Bain’s Celtic career is certainly a bizarre one. After joining Celtic on loan from Dundee in 2018, the former Scotland international made his stay permanent after making 31 appearances covering for the injured Craig Gordon at the time.
Since that season, Bain has only made a further 47 appearances over six-and-a-half years as he spent most of his time playing second and third-fiddle to the likes of Fraser Forster, Craig Gordon and Joe Hart.
Scott Bain’s Celtic appearances
- Season 2018/19: 31
- Season 2019/20: 9
- Season 2020/21: 23
- Season 2021/22: 4
- Season 2022/23: 1
- Season 2023/24: 3
- Season 2024/25: 0
Clearly Bain and Celtic have enjoyed a mutual relationship where the goalkeeper was happy to be the third-choice and it seemed to suit the Parkhead club as the understanding helped meet the European requirements for the Champions League in terms of homegrown players in the squad.
With Bain said to be leaving at the end of the season, that has left the door open for Doohan’s return this summer where he is likely to take Bain’s place in the Celtic pecking order.
