The real reason Elias Filet rejected Celtic becomes clear

Celtic have lost out on signing Elias Filet who recently signed for Belgian club RAAL La Louviere in the Belgian Pro League.

We told how Filet snubbed Celtic to join the Belgian club after weeks of speculation surrounding the Frenchman and a possible move to Glasgow.

While journalist Sacha Tavolieri said Filet’s reason was to join Louviere’s project, the real reason Celtic missed out will not surprise the Hoops support one bit.

Celtic ‘stalled’ as Filet chose RAAL La Louviere

According to Mark Hendry at Celts Are Here, Celtic held a video call with Filet’s ‘representatives’ about a possible Parkhead switch.

That’s all well and good but the report also goes on to say that due to Celtic ‘stalling’, Filet felt the Parkhead hierarchy did not move quickly enough to seal the deal.

This news will not surprise Celtic supporters one bit as Michael Nicholson and the board have had form for this in previous transfer windows.

With Martin O’Neill requiring reinforcements in the forward areas, this news will not go down well with the new Celtic boss who is now charged with defending the double he managed to pluck out of last season’s bin fire.

Is Elias Filet Celtic quality?

Whether Elias Filet is good enough for Celtic is a question that will probably split the fans, but the point is no longer valid now he has sealed his move to Belgium.

Following a breakthrough season in Switzerland with FC Aarau netting 22 goals across all competitions, many will have been sceptical as he plied his trade in the second tier of the Swiss leagues.

Standing at over six feet, Filet would have given Celtic the physical presence of a traditional number nine. The striker may well have been a good squad player, but would Filet have pushed Celtic on in the Champions League or coped with the demands of playing at Parkhead?

We will never know now but the fact he chose the relative comfort of an unknown Belgian side probably tells Celtic fans all they need to know.
