That’s one less worry ticked off Celtic’s transfer list because another left-back is now expected to join.

Following Greg Taylor’s exit in the summer, many have been wondering, outside the fairytale return of Kieran Tierney, who would be Celtic’s back-up left-back option.

It now seems as though that player will stem from South America, and Buenos Aires, because a loan deal is seemingly in the offing for River Plate defender Marcelo Saracchi.

The 27-year-old has a fair amount of experience, so he certainly isn’t a project signing, but a signing for the here and now.

Details on Celtic’s Marcelo Saracchi deal from Boca Juniors

One of the best journalists for Celtic transfers is Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, and he states that a loan deal is being discussed.

Joseph has claimed on social media that the champions of Scotland are ‘close to agreeing a deal’, and there will be an ‘option to buy.’

If that button is pressed, then Celtic would pay ‘in the region of £2 million’ for Saracchi, who turned 27 in April, and last played in Europe in 2023 when he was at Spanish side Levante.

‘Celtic are close to agreeing a deal for Boca Juniors left-back Marcelo Saracchi,’ wrote Joseph.

‘It’s understood the clubs are discussing a loan, with an option to buy in the region of £2m. The Uruguay international has two years left on his Boca contract.’

What does this mean for Hayato Inamura?

One of Celtic’s most intriguing signings this summer has been defender Hayato Inamura, following his transfer from J-League side Albirex Niigata.

In a much-changed side from Brendan Rodgers, Inamura started and impressed during Celtic’s win over Livingston on Saturday afternoon, but will he still be at the club by the end of the 2025 summer transfer window?

Inamura bagged a very healthy rating against Livi, but you just wonder, with Saracchi coming in, and Tierney as the starter, if this means the club’s new Japan star will be loaned out.
