Celtic’s transfer business seems to be hotting up this week as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen the team before the window closes tomorrow night.
Friday night’s deadline is sure to cause a flurry of activity as clubs scramble to get those last minute deals in ahead of the new season.
But one deal that looks unlikely to happen now is that of Polish attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz to Celtic according to a report in Football Scotland.
Celtic has another transfer ‘priority’
Bogusz was first linked to Celtic last week as the Parkhead club opened up talks with MLS side Los Angeles FC about the midfielder after lodging ‘serious’ interest.
The 23-year-old has impressed with his fine goalscoring form this season after netting his 17th goal of the season against the Seattle Sounders last week.
However, it seems now that Brendan Rodgers has had a change of heart as the report says that the deal to sign Arne Engels is the Celtic boss’ ‘priority’ and that Bogusz is now no longer a target.
But all is not lost for Bogusz because if he wants to make a move this summer then a report from Polish outlet Meczyki says that the MLS star is ‘on the list’ of other teams this summer.
Rodgers seems laser focused on targets
Dropping Bogusz to get the Arne Engels deal over the line shows just how focus Brendan Rodgers is on getting the right man in to replace new Brighton midfielder, Matt O’Riley.
With the Parkhead club receiving around £26m outright for O’Riley, Rodgers has the ability to sign more than one midfielder and has recently stated that he did want two in at Celtic to replace the Dane.
The Celtic boss has the ability to sign both Engels and Bogusz but now that the Pole has been dropped, it is clear that Rodgers is sticking by his principle of getting in quality rather than quantity and the Irishman clearly sees Engels as the better option of the two players.
