Video: Watch "one of Bernabei's best performances" in South America amid strong Celtic reports
Celtic appear to be finally closing in on the signing of Lanus talent Alexandro Bernabei after reports from Argentina suggested that the Bhoys had reached a verbal agreement for his transfer.
It’s been said by journalist Cesar Luis Merlo that Lanus are now preparing the paperwork for his official move to the Bhoys, selling him and retaining a 10% sell-on clause. That ramps up the excitement surrounding this potential signing, with supporters scouring his history and video highlights for snippets of his playing style.
Argentinian outlet Golazo says one of his best performances came in the Copa Sudamericana in April, when Lanus beat Ecuadorian side Barcelona 3-1.
Bernabei assisted Lanus’ second goal of the night and ended up scoring a scorching beauty for their third. You can see the highlights via this link or embedded below.
For #Celtic fans wondering this was one of Bernabei’s best performances in recent months when Lanús beat Barcelona in @TheSudamericana. The assist for the second and scoring the third.— GOLAZO (@golazoargentino) June 21, 2022
The Copa Sudamericana is the continent’s equivalent of the UEFA Europa League, demonstrating that Bernabei is showing ability at a level beyond his domestic action.
Lanus are through to the last 16 of the tournament as a seeded team after finishing top of their group. The Celtic target played four of their six group games, also scoring against Montevideo Wanderers of Uruguay.
Bernabei definitely appears to have an attacking focus despite lining up at left-back, something that could transfer well to the way Ange Postecoglou likes his team to play.
Celtic clearly like what they see. It won’t just be his approach under scrutiny but also how well he presses opponents and how effective he is at finding space between the lines.
All that is to be determined unless you are a brave soul seeking out full matches of his performances over the last six months.
Either way, we could soon be about to find out what he offers in a Celtic shirt if the agreement does lead to him landing in Scotland shortly.
If he’s signed up in time for pre-season, he’s a good candidate to be involved in Austrian friendlies on 6th and 9th July.
Bring it on!
