“We need players”; Ange Postecoglou gets serious with fresh Celtic transfer update

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has admitted the club badly need players in the door ahead of the new season, in a fresh transfer update.

So far, the only players added to the club ranks have been Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide. No harm to either, and there is optimism they can shine, but they aren’t quite the major first-team quality signings we need.

A number of key positions have to be addressed. There’s serious concern about right-back in particular, where the previously nowhere-to-be-seen Anthony Ralston is currently first-choice.

Postecoglou recognises the urgency of the situation and delivered a transfer update from Wales this weekend.

He told The Daily Record: “We are trying to get some players in and hopefully get some deals done. We need some players to come in because we lost a fair few from last year.

“It is not an easy process at the moment. But we are pushing hard and hopefully we will get some in the next few days.”

“We need players in a number of positions, it’s not just one.

“Even looking at those who have gone form last season, purely on numbers, we need players.”

Celtic transfer update is more direct than seasons past

While Postecoglou is key in the Celtic transfer process – ultimately he is the one who signs off on incoming players – it’s the negotiating team at the club under pressure here.

Postecoglou’s update is a little more direct than what we were used to under Lennon. It’s clearly a serious situation and he clearly feels the squad is not strong enough for the season ahead.

The Celtic board, and whoever they have entrusted to deliver players, simply have to start backing Postecoglou in the way he needs.

There’s a shaky alliance between the club and supporters right now. Over 50,000, including myself, have bought season tickets this year. We’ve paid our cash – where is the rebuild we were promised?

No one is expecting ten players in the door over the next week, but we’re nine days away from the Champions League kicking off and the squad is in dire shape.

Give Postecoglou the tools he needs to do the business.

In other news, Ange Postecoglou’s Karamoko Dembele update is hugely promising.
