What Celtic need to do to secure Kieran Tierney backup as details of bid for Boca Juniors star emerge

Celtic have been working hard to secure a new backup for Kieran Tierney this summer.

Tierney returned from Arsenal in the summer but is the only left-back option available after Greg Taylor left to join PAOK.

As Tierney continues to build up his fitness, Brendan Rodgers has used Liam Scales at left-back and started Hayato Inamura against Livingston.

Finding someone who is comfortable to play there is important and a bid has gone in for one Boca Juniors star.

Celtic submit bid for Marcelo Saracchi

It’s obvious that Tierney would be the primary candidate for the starting role, however, due to injury concerns and the volume of games, backup options are needed.

Enter Marcelo Saracchi of Boca Juniors, a Uruguay international currently playing for one of Argentina’s biggest clubs.

Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo confirmed that Celtic were in talks and that a loan to buy offer has been made, but work needs to be done in order to get the deal over the line.

He said: “Boca already has a loan offer for one year with a fee and a purchase option. I understand that, if they improve the amounts of the option, the deal could be feasible.”

Marcelo Saracchi move opens the door for Hayato Inamura loan

Should Saracchi come to Celtic Park, things would be able to progress with Inamura.

Rodgers is keen to loan the defender out after he left Inamura out of the Champions League squad.

The 24-year-old impressed against Livingston and certainly has a future at the club going forward.

Celtic want Inamura to get used to the physicality of the league and a loan move will allow him to play every week once the Hoops have the depth they need.
