Celtic FC Women star Jacynta is leaving the club after an entertaining two-and-a-half years with the Ghirls. The club announced the news on social media this evening as Fran Alonso prepares for something of a rebuild ahead of the new season.

Jacynta was one of the most popular players in the Celtic Women’s squad and has helped the team to numerous silverware successes. Her flair and creativity marked her out as one of the must-watch members of the squad.

She isn’t the only popular player to be making an exit either. This weekend the club also announced Natasha Flint won’t be staying at the Ghirls after taking the club by storm on loan last season. Flint was a goalscoring machine and her contribution will also be greatly missed.

Last month, it was also announced that goalkeeper Pam Tajonar was leaving the club to return to Mexico. Meanwhile, Liv Fergusson, well-known to fans, has also left.

Next season is a big one for Celtic after so narrowly missing out on the SWPL 1 title at Glasgow City’s expense on the final day last term. Winning a title would mean so much and that has to be the aim. So signing quality to replace impactful performers is a must.

Some players have already arrived including Colette Cavanagh and Jenny Smith.

The club also have UEFA Women’s Champions League football to look forward to, as well. They face Brondby in their mini-tournament semi-final, with FC Minsk and Valerenga waiting for the chance to make it into round two of the competition.

With increasing interest from supporters in the women’s side, Celtic have the chance to once again capture the imagination and set up some big ties at Celtic Park.

The best of luck to all of the departing players this summer and hopefully their replacements can build similar reputations in Glasgow.
