The SWPL increasingly looks like it could become a two-horse title race between Celtic and Rangers this season after a bad day for Glasgow City.
Celtic picked up a resounding 5-0 win away to Hamilton on Sunday evening, staying within a point of league leaders Rangers and surging a massive ten points clear of City, who retain a game in hand on both clubs.
City had earlier been beaten 2-0 by Rangers in a Glasgow derby, the third they’ve lost this season after defeats to Celtic in the league and League Cup.
The ever-reliable Caitlin Hayes powered the Ghirls towards victory in Hamilton with her fourth goal of the season after 20 minutes.
Then, Amy Gallacher, Chloe Craig, Nour Addi and Ceyla Barclais racked up the scoreline and piled the misery on the Lanarkshire club.

Sunday’s result moves Celtic onto 36 points from 13 matches and the margin of victory nudged their goal difference above Rangers’, who sit on 37 points. That could be a crucial metric come the end of the campaign.
City languish behind on 26 points and are under significant pressure to find better consistency in the top flight if they are to retain the title they so narrowly pipped Celtic to last season.
Fran Alonso’s side now have matches against Aberdeen, Spartans and Hearts before the end of the year before a massive January that includes a semi-final derby against Rangers and a league showdown away to Glasgow City at Petershill Park, back-to-back.
If the Ghirls can keep winning and come through their derby tests in January and February, it’ll set up another huge end to the campaign that could well capture the imagination of the wider Celtic support, as it did last season.
