Fran Alonso looks to continue the success he’s had at Celtic after a 4-0 win over Partick Thistle sent his side into the Glasgow Cup Final.

A double from Caitlin Hayes was complimented by goals from Natalie Ross and Chloe Craig as the Ghirls booked their place in the final which is set to take place on Saturday 30th of July.

Fran Alonso was delighted with the win and said that he was impressed with the performance, especially with so many new faces that have been added to the side this summer.

Alonso said [Celtic FC Women], “I really like the way we played. It’s our fourth game and because it’s pre-season we have so many players learning the way we play. But I thought today we were very good against tough opposition.

“I think they are a better team than they were last season so I wasn’t expecting that scoreline. We took advantage of set plays which is an incredible strength for us.

“So I’m very pleased. Very happy with the young players that come on. I’m very happy. It’s a good performance, a good result and we get to play in a final, which is exciting.”

Celtic will now face Rangers on Sunday after the Ibrox side booked their place in the final with an 11-0 win over Queens Park in their semi-final.

Alonso will no doubt be looking forward to facing his city rivals where, on their last meeting, the Celtic manager created history by retaining the Scottish Cup.

If Celtic can defeat Rangers this Saturday, it will be a huge confidence boost for the season ahead. The Ghirls narrowly lost out on the title last season where final-day drama saw Glasgow City nick the SWPL title with a last-minute winner and Alonso will be desperate to take the Ghirls that one step further and lift the trophy.
