Glasgow City manager Scott Booth is out to prove a point to Celtic and Rangers as SWPL 1 gears up for a dramatic conclusion to the season.

Fran Alonso’s Celtic still have a chance of winning their first-ever league title on the final day tomorrow. If the Ghirls win comfortably away to Motherwell and City lose to Rangers, the title is ours.

Even if Celtic do not win the league, they can guarantee Champions League football for the first time with a Sunday victory.

For Booth, is about continuing City’s dominance over Scottish women’s football. It’s also an opportunity to prove a point to Celtic and Rangers after investment into both women’s teams.

Speaking to The Scottish Daily Mail (05/06 print edition, page 113), he said: “It is tough when clubs start to plough money into their squads and they obviously are in it to win it.

“They want success from the money they have spent. It ramps up the league in terms of the quality and the competitiveness and when you get that then it means you have a really tough job to go and win it.

“There are three or four clubs backing their women’s side financially, so we stand alone in only having women’s sides. From that perspective, it would be great if we could win the title because not only is it a 14th title but it is for a club who stand only for women’s and girls football.

“We understand what the backing of a men’s club can mean but at the same time, if we can do it on our own then I think it would be special.”

Alonso ready to bring Celtic fight to Scott Booth and City

Celtic have their own ambitions and no doubt the club will see another winner of SWPL 1 being a great step forward for women’s football in this country.

We spoke to Fran Alonso earlier this week and he was in great form ahead of tomorrow’s pressure game. He insisted to Euan Davidson that they are ready to bring the fight and win or lose as a family tomorrow.

Supporters have the chance to watch all the title day action too. The Motherwell v Celtic match is being broadcast live on the BBC Sport website tomorrow at 16:10.
