Celtic vs Rangers is undoubtedly one of the most fiercest football rivalries in the world, perhaps even THE fiercest outright.

The Old Firm was first competed in May 1888 when Celtic played their first ever match as a newly-formed football club against Rangers.

That was classed as a friendly, with Celtic winning 5-2, but no Old Firm or Glasgow derby clash in the decades since can ever be dubbed just a friendly.

But over the course of the Old Firm and Glasgow derby’s history, who out of Celtic and Rangers have actually won more games? Below, 67 Hail Hail reveals the full Celtic vs Rangers record.

Who has the most Old Firm and Glasgow derby wins?

The last Glasgow derby was played in August 2025 when Celtic drew 0-0 with Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

As of that fixture, Rangers have one more win than Celtic in the all-time Old Firm and Glasgow derby head-to-head.

As you can see, Rangers ever so slightly hold the upper hand when it comes to league meetings. But Celtic have won more derbies in knockout competitions.

Celtic’s biggest ever wins over Rangers

Before 2016, Celtic had only dished out 11 victories over Rangers with at least a four-goal winning margin. But since 2016, the Hoops have achieved that a staggering five times.

It underlines the Bhoys’ dominance of Scottish football ever since the Ibrox club were liquidated in 2012 and sent down to the Third Division, as it was known then.

Celtic’s joint-second biggest win over Rangers ever came in April 2018 when an Odsonne Edouard inspired Hoops thumped them 5-0 at Celtic Park. The only other 5-0 win over Rangers came in 1925.

The biggest Celtic victory over Rangers? That came in the 1957 Scottish League Cup final when the Hoops thrashed their great rivals 7-1 at Hampden Park.

Billy McPhail scored a hat-trick that day for Jimmy McGrory’s rampant Celts, and the game is now etched in the fans’ songbook with the tune ‘Hampden in the Sun’.
