BBC pundit knows exactly which Celtic star Brendan Rodgers was calling out after St Johnstone loss

Brendan Rodgers wasn’t a happy man following Celtic’s defeat to St Johnstone on Sunday.

It just goes to show the very high standards that have been set at this club that, even with Celtic on course for the Treble, such performances and defeats aren’t accepted.

The issue here is that a common theme is emerging with Celtic’s performances since the turn of the year, and it has Rodgers pretty much annoyed.

Certain players seem far too relaxed, and even when some players are absent through injury, the performance levels shouldn’t drop to the standards to which they have in recent times.

Rodgers is clearly having none of it and isn’t afraid to call the team out, as a whole, and question the players’ mentality.

The Celtic manager didn’t drop the names of any individuals he wasn’t happy with, but who was he talking about?

Celtic told that Brendan Rodgers is calling out Nicolas Kuhn

The man subbed at half-time was Nicolas Kuhn, along with Jeffrey Schlupp, but given that the latter only arrived in January, then he probably doesn’t get as much verbal flak as his teammate, who has been here before.

Kuhn’s form is an issue and Scott Allan feels that he is one of the players Rodgers is unhappy with because he is ‘wanting more’.

Allan told Sportscene that, following on from Kuhn’s blistering start to the campaign, the opposition have now ‘started to work him out’ and it has resulted in him going ‘off the boil’.

“I think he has done it for the benefit of the group and for the games going into next season,” said Allan about Rodgers calling out the players.

“We have already heard him speak about, time and time again, how he wants to develop this team, so I think he is trying to put the scaries on them a little bit.

“But, I think, in terms of individually, Kuhn could be in for a bit of criticism from Brendan Rodgers. He is probably wanting more. Coming onto his left foot. You need a wee bit more than that. A wee bit more creativity.

“I think opposition players are now starting to work him out a little, and he hasn’t had the same effect on the side. I think maybe him, who is one who has been (singled out). He has come off the boil a little bit, but generally he wants the team’s standards to be better.”

Kuhn’s stats for Celtic in 2025

At one point during the season, Kuhn was a Player of the Season contender, but it’s fair to say that he has lost that race to Daizen Maeda now.

Yes, in the overall picture, when you look at his numbers, they are pretty strong, and he does have 18 goals, including 14 assists to his name, which is pretty special.

But a lot of that damage was done during the first half of the campaign because, since the turn of the year, he has dipped in all competitions.
