Brendan Rodgers took a Celtic fan bite back in his stride this evening after beating Dundee United 2-0.

The Hoops comfortably beat the Terrors thanks to goals from Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate as they went 16 points clear of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

The only slight disappointment would have been Nicolas Kuhn pulling up injured before kick-off with Yang coming in to replace the in-form German.

Rodgers addressed Kuhn’s injury and admitted he’s hopeful that it is not too serious an issue with big games on the horizon.

But it was the fallout to Rodgers‘ comments regarding “disrespect” of Greg Taylor he felt the left-back received on the back of last week’s clash against St Mirren.

Fans sang for Kieran Tierney amid transfer return links and that frustrated the manager.

And this evening at Parkhead fans brushed off their old songbooks for numerous former players in a bid to take a subtle pop at their boss and his words.

It was a bit of banter between the support and their manager with the likes of Artur Boruc, Henrik Larsson, Jota and Moussa Dembele receiving some love from the stands.

The Tierney song ended the evening and Rodgers was asked about the decision of the fanbase to sing the songs and chant for club legends.

And the Irishman took it in his stride.

Rodgers responded to Celtic fans after their songs

“The kit man, he was the only one that missed out, I think, tonight,” the Celtic manager chuckled.

“But, yes, it’s all part of the dance here, isn’t it? My job is to put the best team on the pitch and win consistently, and everyone can smile.”

Rodgers was also asked about fan patience in the stand after also having plenty to say on backwards and sideways passes being booed in recent weeks.

And he was pleased with the fans taking heed of what he had said.

Celtic brushed Dundee United aside to go 16 points clear

“The crowd were brilliant. Like you said, it can get a bit edgy and we are a support, bless us, we fret a wee bit, we can do that.

“But I think it was there. I think that support is so important and it was fantastic tonight. It’s such a cold night to come out and see the team, but the numbers turned up and gave the team a great support and that allowed us to push us over the line.”

The manager admitted his comments may have made a mountain from a molehill and he reiterated the notion that Taylor was “absolutely fine” after the game on Sunday.

“Yes, he’s absolutely fine with it,” he added.

“Like I say, it’s probably a bigger deal made of it than what it actually was, my observation I made, but it’s gone now. So, he was very good in the game, as he always is.

“He was very consistent and had a really good performance.”
