Celtic beat Stuttgart with their lowest amount of shots in a Europa League game this season

Celtic managed to beat Stuttgart despite having the fewest number of shots they’ve recorded in a Europa League game this season.

Luke McCowan’s historic strike was the only goal of the game as the Hoops bowed out of the competition in spirited circumstances to provide Martin O’Neill with some confidence ahead of Rangers on Sunday.

A lack of firepower in front of goal has been a real issue for the Bhoys, but they proved in this 1-0 win that it’s all about taking your chances, no matter how many you have.

Celtic only had three shots on goal against Stuttgart

After McCowan’s goal 30 seconds into the game, Celtic only managed to muster two more shots across the 90 minutes.

According to Opta, that’s the lowest number of shots they’ve registered in one of their Europa League this season.

Their previous lowest was in the 3-0 defeat against Roma under Wilfried Nancy in December while Stuttgart themselves had 23 efforts on goal.

On the other hand, they did manage 20 shots against Sturm Graz, a game that the Hoops won 2-1 after coming from behind in the league phase.

Ahead of the Glasgow derby this weekend, where chances could be few and far between again, having that killer instinct to put the ball in the back of the net with any chance you can get could be the difference between lifting the Scottish Premiership or watching on from afar as their rivals do.
