Celtic have the opportunity to continue an excellent record against Motherwell.

The Bhoys are back to league action after a disappointing midweek result that saw Celtic lose to Braga in the Europa League.

Brendan Rodgers was rightfully criticised as supporters booed at full-time to make their thoughts clear.

This won’t be an easy game either, with Motherwell still unbeaten after six games, however, history suggests that a Celtic win is a likely outcome.

Celtic’s record after playing in Europe is excellent

Recent years have proved that there is no European hangover for Celtic when they play midweek before a league game.

As per the BBC Sport stat pack, the Hoops have only lost one of their last 44 home league games after playing in Europe.

The last defeat came against Hearts in December 2023, when the Bhoys were beaten 2-0 at home.

Preserving a record like that will be important to the Hoops manager and could be the catalyst to instil some much-needed confidence.

Celtic’s H2H record vs Motherwell

It will come as no surprise to hear that Celtic are the dominant side when the two teams play against each other.

Motherwell have only won 12 times in all competitions against the Bhoys, whereas Celtic have won 82 of the 115 meetings.

The visitors also haven’t beaten Celtic since December 2015, when they won 2-1 in a famous victory for the Steelmen.
