It wasn’t the fairy tale ending for Greg Taylor at Celtic.
On Saturday, Celtic were beaten by Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden, as Brendan Rodgers’ side missed out on winning the domestic Treble.
Taylor started the match at left-back and completed the full match, including the draining extra time, as Jimmy Thelin’s men triumphed on penalties.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but this is expected to be Taylor’s final game for Celtic.
The 27-year-old’s contract expires at the end of June, and the signs suggest that he won’t put pen to paper on a new deal in the colours of Celtic.
The man signed by Neil Lennon in 2019 has had an interesting career at Celtic Park, being a regular at left-back, and racking up the trophies.
But it’s fair to say that he has divided opinion like no other.

Celtic fans give Taylor his flowers despite Scottish Cup final loss to Aberdeen
Whatever you think of Taylor, he put on a show in his final game and is one of the very few players who can hold his head up high.
The Celtic fans wanted to make note of that on social media, including how it was fitting that he ended the game in the middle of the park.
Ahead of Taylor’s expected exit, it was agreed that he leaves giving his all for Scotland’s most successful club, and being a huge part of their recent rich history.
@McmCol lauded Taylor’s display: ‘Greg Taylor was the best player on the park today , full of energy , shuffled around different positions, gave his all . Sad to see him go @CelticFC’.
@Conor70514584 shared what’s undervalued: ‘Amidst today’s performance, disappointing to see Greg Taylor didn’t get the send off he deserves. A fantastic Celtic player who has been undervalued since he arrived’.
@ZanderB69160999 doesn’t want to hear any Taylor slander: ‘Greg Taylor was the best player on the pitch for us today… I won’t hear any Taylor slander!’
@MickArnoldiv is trying to make a point: ‘Greg Taylor was the best player on the park the day and he’s leaving in summer’.
@Chris4245121 wants Taylor to stay: ‘We need to keep Greg Taylor is the only thing I’ve got from this final so far’.
@Paul96256082 also lauded Taylor’s display: ‘Thought Greg Taylor was our best player and all the best to the lad if that was his farewell game’.
@anmcd90 noted how the left-back finished the game: ‘It would be quite fitting if Greg Taylor ended his Celtic career playing literally in midfield’.
@gfpaterson says only two players turned up to the final: ‘Carter Vickers and Greg Taylor turned up today. No one else did. Can’t carry two passengers in a cup final, never mind nine. Plus subs’.
@nickmclean17 knows what is coming: ‘Not at the races at all today. Didn’t deserve to win. Wonder when Greg Taylor and Liam Scales will be blamed for todays loss’.
@ReesSmith91 wants Taylor to stay: ‘Celtic would be silly to let Greg Taylor leave the club’.
Taylor’s Celtic career in numbers
Many left-backs have tried and tried to make that spot their own, but under the intense pressure of playing for Celtic, they haven’t been able to withstand it and produce the performances.
Taylor has done it time and time again. He deserves respect and credit for it.
One thing that can’t be argued is that Taylor has been a successful signing, and it’s a shame that he has to head for the exit door.
