It was a perfect night at Paradise as Celtic sailed through to the next round of the Premier Sports Cup.

Celtic swept Falkirk aside in a 4-1 victory, with Daizen Maeda, Alistair Johnston, Dane Murray and Hyunjun Yang all scoring.

Brendan Rodgers would’ve been delighted with the football on display, and for one player in particular, it was a very memorable night.

Celtic fans loved Dane Murray’s performance against Falkirk

In the build-up to kick-off it was announced that Murray had signed a new contract at Celtic and was then rewarded with a start.

To make it even better, the centre-back then scored his first goal for the club with a beautiful glancing header and the fans were in awe of his brilliant performance.

@AlanAlanthain wrote: “Well done Dane Murray so pleased for him, had a good game so far.”

@DominikDiamond added: “I think Dane Murray might become a regular player for us eventually. Also Arne Engels dead balls have been great tonight. KT’s live balls remain virtually perfect. Lots of lovely balls in general tonight!”

@Ronny__Deila commented: “Dane Murray is the future.”

@SolDemonic said: “Although a newly promoted team, I thought Celtic were excellent. Dane Murray looks a pler, Engels was brilliant and Forrest played a blinder. On to the next round and on to Wednesday.”

Dane Murray ‘shocked’ after netting first Celtic goal

Speaking to Premier Sports TV after a brilliant night for the 22-year-old, Murray admitted that he was surprised to see himself get on the scoresheet.

He said: “I’m delighted. We set out to win these comps every year, so it’s a strong start.

“I don’t score much so I was more shocked than anything.”

Meanwhile, teammate Johnston added: “It’s a massive day for Dane. It shows the trust the gaffer has in him, and to step into CCV’s shoes and not put a foot wrong is impressive.”
