‘That’s good business’ – Celtic told Brendan Rodgers has just signed ‘an asset’ this summer

Celtic have been pilloried by the fans over their summer transfer business.

Or should we say, lack of transfer business this summer. Despite Celtic adding eight players, only two can be regarded as first-team starters.

Benjamin Nygren and Kieran Tierney have made an instant impact at Celtic in the first two games of the season with both players adding goals and assists in the wins over St Mirren and Aberdeen.

However, Celtic hero Pat Bonner said one of the Parkhead pair is going to go on and be an asset for the club in the future.

Pat Bonner says Celtic have made a good investment in Benjamin Nygren

Benjamin Nygren has caught the Celtic fans’ attention already this summer and after watching him for the first time this season, Bonner believes his old club have won a watch.

Bonner told BBC Radio Scotland, “I’ve got to say, Nygren, first time I’ve seen him. I thought he was good.

“I thought he really played well. Got his goal, and he will be an asset to them. That’s good business again, bringing in that type of player who can have an influence when, and that’s what you’re looking for.

“I think Nygren, who looks as if he’s just slotted into a nice position, that’s already probably the position that Engels would have played in there.

“So that’s a kind of a natural position for him to come and play. And he did well to just link up with the other midfielders so, that’s not an issue for him.”

It’s early doors yet, but it appears that Nygren is not only impressing Celtic fans and Bonner, even Andy Halliday admits the Hoops player is quality.

Halliday said of Nygren, “We had a caller who talked about how Nygren; they have found another gem within him.

“He only cost Celtic £2 million. He could be the next Matt O’Riley that we have been speaking about.

“You have to almost refrain from judgment, from now towards what is going to happen at Celtic until the end of the window. But I can’t disagree that I have been really surprised at how slow it has been so far.”
