Three Europa League stars that Celtic could target this summer, including Midjtylland star

Celtic should be looking at the current Europa League market to find transfer options for next season.

It is going to be a big summer rebuild job for whoever becomes the Celtic manager in the summer that is expected to see the likes of Daizen Maeda depart and a suitable replacement cost a pretty penny.

Experience of playing in high-pressure situations will be important and the Europa League certainly offers that. So, with that, here are three players competing in this year’s competition that the Hoops should look at.

The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝

Tell us why you picked that position

Elias Olafsson – FC Midtjylland (Goalkeeper)

We start with a position that has dominated the headlines for Celtic ever since Kasper Schmeichel announced he was having surgery on his shoulder injury. That will keep him out for 10-12 months and almost certainly end his Celtic career.

Viljami Sinisalo has stepped up and impressed in his absence but, if Celtic wanted to go to the next level, Elias Olafsson could be the perfect option.

The 26-year-old has starred for Midtjylland in the Europa League this season, keeping five clean sheets in nine games and 17 from 31 in all competitions.

He has been instrumental in Midtjylland’s success domestically and on the continental stage and could also be the perfect long-term replacement for Schmeichel.

Sampson Dweh – Viktoria Plzen (Defender)

A centre-back is going to be a necessity for Celtic this summer.

Cameron Carter-Vickers doesn’t seem any closer to returning to action and Benjamin Arthur will return to Brentford, leaving them with three options.

Sampson Dweh fits the bill as he is a right-footed centre-back. This enables more angles to open up on that side of the pitch and prevents him from moving into the space occupied by Liam Scales, Auston Trusty, or whoever is on the left.

Dweh may be 24 but he is already a natural leader having captained Viktoria Plzen and been one of their main assets in the Czech top flight.

Dion Beljo – Dinamo Zagreb (Striker)

Despite bringing in four strikers across the two transfer windows this season, Celtic are still crying out for a proven goalscorer and they should look no further than Dion Beljo.

The forward is close to bagging 20 league goals for Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian top flight and has five in the Europa League alone.

His 23 strikes from 36 games in all competitions means he is averaging a goal every 101 minutes this season and is surely going to be in demand.

Beljo is 24 and will no doubt cost a fair few million, but to have someone as prolific as that is worth it.
