Starring in Canada’s draw with Curacao, Johnston’s teammates were left embarrassed after the Celtic defender’s mistake cost what should have been a straightforward win.
However, in last night’s win, Johnston helped Canada to progress into the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup after he starred in a battling win that saw El Salvador finish the game with nine men.

TSN pundit Kristian Jack labelled the win as an ‘absurd game of football’ and said, “It was an absurd game of football. No doubt about that.
“At times it struggled on the line between chaotic and farcical.
“Canada will look on it where they kept their discipline with no suspensions and no key injuries. Not a night where they can say that they rode a lot of challenges from a football point of view.
