Celtic fans absolutely love Alistair Johnston.
The Canadian right-back joined the club in January 2022 and was signed by Ange Postecoglou as Johnston replaced the outgoing Josip Juranovic.
Johnston was a Celtic standout in UEFA’s Champions League stats last season as the Hoops defender was recorded as the third-fastest and fittest player in Europe’s elite tournament.
But as Celtic’s pre-season schedule looms, an announcement by Canada’s FA about Johnston has the country’s fans buzzing.

Canada fans are buzzing after FA announced Celtic’s Alistair Johnston joins national squad
The Canadian FA announced that Johnston has arrived to join the national squad ahead of their CONCACAF Gold Cup fixtures against Curaçao and El Salvador.
And it appears that the fans are just as excited as the national association at the arrival of the Celtic defender.
@normsworld was buzzing and said, “A welcome sight! Welcome back Alistair!” and that sentiment was shared by @WestHamCanada who proudly posted on X, “Our Canadian Celt. Hail, hail.”
And finally, @TheAcunacorn put it best with this reply, “Demon home.”
Why Canada loves Alistair Johnston just as much as Celtic fans do
Johnston is just as important to Canada as he is to Celtic. With 53 caps, the 26-year-old has scored one goal and created three assists.
However, with Johnston in the team, Canada have reached a World Cup, made the final of the Nations League narrowly losing out to the USA.
Johnston has also helped take the Canadians to the semi-finals of the 2012 Gold Cup and the quarter-finals in 2023.
They also reached the 2024 Copa America semi-finals losing out to Argentina 2-0. Johnston has been just as crucial to Canada’s success as he has been to Celtic’s.
It’s little wonder he is loved by both sets of fans.
