Chris Sutton asks two Celtic questions after Motherwell draw

Chris Sutton has highlighted Celtic’s issues from the penalty spot after Brendan Rodgers watched his side drop points at home to Motherwell.

Luis Palma missed a crucial spot-kick in the first half – Celtic’s third miss of the season – to set the tone for a tense and edgy game.

Yes, David Turnbull converted from the spot with four minutes left on the clock, but it still opened the door for Motherwell to equalise minutes later because the scoreline was only 1-0 – Callum McGregor wasn’t best pleased.

Chris Sutton asked Celtic fans if they are ‘worried’ and if the ‘team is a little flat this season’, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport

That’s the second time this season that the Bhoys have been held to a goalless draw on home soil with that lack of goals a worry – Michael Stewart raised an important point about Hyeongyu Oh and the now-departed Giorgos Giakoumakis.

It’s strange saying that because it wasn’t so long ago that the team were putting six past Aberdeen.

Chris Sutton reacts to Celtic 1-1 Motherwell

“They can’t take penalties, Celtic, although they did score one eventually,” said Sutton. “They missed the first one. Poor penalty record.

“Were you at Celtic Park? Are you worried? Is the team a little flat this season?”

Focus on the Champions League

These final few days of November and then December in itself is really going to test Brendan Rodgers.

There was a lot of noise around his return in the summer when he replaced Ange Postecoglou, and in truth, things have just been steady since he came back – John McGinn slammed the ‘nonsense’ he has been hearing.

But you can’t really go beyond steady because things could be a lot better, especially in the attacking department.

Well, Celtic will get their final answers as to what happens in the Champions League with a trip to Lazio coming up, before taking on St Johnstone next Sunday.
