Another thumbs up to Celtic’s recruitment.

Whether it’s players from Japan, from Scotland itself, young, in the middle, or those towards the end of their careers, time and time again, the club’s recruitment delivers.

That is the case with Celtic midfielder Luke McCowan, who made a summer move from Dundee to his boyhood club, and he earned himself a much-deserved goal on Wednesday night.

Celtic thrashed Aberdeen 5-1, with Brendan Rodgers ringing the changes ahead of the final game of the 2024/25 Premiership campaign at the weekend.

McCowan started in the middle of the park, alongside his captain Callum McGregor, and Paulo Bernardo also earning some much-needed minutes.

With Celtic 2-1 up at the break, the champions of Scotland came out flying, and McCowan nabbed himself a goal, and he got his flowers from Chris Sutton.

Chris Sutton analyses Luke McCowan’s debut season at Celtic

McCowan has been a bit-part player this term, yet he has never shown that he is unhappy, restless or frustrated.

It’s a mark of why Celtic have such a strong squad, because players like McCowan, as Sutton touched upon, have probably been ‘slightly hard done by’ because they should be starting more.

Yet, the legendary striker feels that the 27-year-old has been a top, top purchase from the club, as he told Sky Sports Football (14/05/25).

“I think he has had a good season, McCowan,” said Sutton. “A smart piece of business from Celtic. Many a cameo off the bench.

“You do feel that he has been slightly hard done by. He hasn’t started more games, but he often makes an impact.”

McCowan’s stats for Celtic this season

You give McCowan a massive thumbs-up for his debut campaign in Celtic colours, with the majority of his league matches (19) coming from the bench.

The only blot on this whole thing is the fact that he didn’t start a Champions League match, and only played 49 minutes.

But, come next season, he will be wanting to turn it all around, because there is plenty of quality there on show to prove that he is worthy of more minutes, with WhoScored rating his Premiership campaign at 6.83.
