Chris Sutton noticed something interesting about Kyogo Furuhashi playing out of position for Celtic

Celtic’s star striker Kyogo Furuhashi just hasn’t looked himself this season as the change in style from Ange Postecoglou to Brendan Rodgers just doesn’t seem to suit him.

The one great thing is that the Japan star, when it mattered most, stepped up and produced the goods.

But everyone can see that the consistency has gone out of the 29-year-old’s game, that’s why he only has eight Premiership goals to his name this term.

As Brendan Rodgers watched Celtic drop points away at Aberdeen on Saturday, it was Kyogo Furuhashi who started up front, with January signing Adam Idah on the bench.

With Celtic 1-0 down, the changes were made, with the likes of Adam Idah and Niclas Kuhn introduced into the action and Kyogo Furuhashi staying on the pitch.

Chris Sutton noticed how the derby day king was actually more involved in the game and had ‘more touches’ when asked to play out of position, as he told Sky Sports Football (03/02/24 at 3:05 pm).

That included a mazy run from the former Vissel Kobe player, which nearly resulted in one of the goals of the season.

“I maybe wrong, but Kyogo, since the substitutions and him playing in a different position,” said Sutton.

“It has probably seen him have more touches during that little period than the entire game.”

Kyogo Furuhashi needs a partner

Whether it’s the new boy Idah or Hyeongyu Oh, who is currently at the Asian Cup. Kyogo needs a partner to play alongside.

What Rodgers is currently deploying out, simply isn’t working. Plus, the manager himself made it clear that he would be willing to play Oh and Kyogo together, but he hasn’t started with that yet.

Now that he has three strikers to pick from and the team isn’t exactly performing, then surely, in these coming weeks, something has to give and he has to start two of them together.

It might just spark Kyogo’s season into life because, if he starts performing on a consistent basis, then the title is only heading towards one direction.
