A performance to be proud of from Celtic as they bowed out of the Champions League with their heads held high.

Alphonso Davies’ stoppage time goal broke Celtic hearts and sent Bayern Munich into the last 16 by the barest of margins.

Brendan Rodgers made some interesting calls before the game, including starting Daizen Maeda up top and dropping Greg Taylor to the bench for Jeffrey Schlupp.

It worked a treat because, by the half-time break, Celtic should have been 3-0 up, only for Callum McGregor, Nicolas Kuhn and Maeda to spurn big chances.

Kuhn eventually got his goal after the hour mark and the champions of Scotland were in dreamland.

From back to front, every man donning the Celtic colours did themselves proud and there were interesting battles across the pitch.

No more so than Schlupp facing his former Crystal Palace teammate, Michael Olise.

Crystal Palace fans react to Jeffrey Schlupp’s performance against Michael Olise for Celtic against Bayern Munich

Olise opened the scoring at Celtic Park when he was up against Taylor, so it wasn’t a surprise that deadline-day signing Schlupp was brought into the fold.

The duo played with each other for many years at Selhurst Park, so it added extra spice to their battle and it attracted the interest of Palace supporters.

Rodgers played Schlupp at left-back and the Palace faithful questioned why they haven’t done that with the 32-year-old because they feel he put in a strong display.

Palace fan warned everyone, as @TCPalacePod wrote: ‘We tried to tell you – Jeffrey Schlupp on Amazon Prime is a different animal!

‘What a phenomenal effort from Schluppy and Celtic. Unfortunately for them, Bayern have a ridiculously talented winger who can cut inside and put the ball on a sixpence’, wrote another Palace fan.

Could there be regret from Palace, as @CPFCWiII stated: ‘Maybe Schlupp is the LWB we’ve been missing…’

Palace fans want Schlupp to come back, @CPFCDavid7 made it clear: ‘Let’s hope he comes back and we resign him for another year and try him out’.

Palace fans were enjoying the match-up between two former teammates, as @ThePalaceWay wrote: ‘Jeffrey Schlupp is currently playing against Michael Olise in the Champions League. Crystal Palace are massive’.

A sight for sore eyes if you are a Palace fan, as @Mark_CPFC said: ‘Never thought I’d be watching Olise v Schlupp in the Champions League but here we are’.

Palace fans are stunned by Schlupp at LB, as @BenWattsSport explained: ‘If Schlupp had this in the locker, why did he never get a look in at LWB?’.

Schlupp’s stats for Celtic against Bayern Munich

Yes, Schlupp has started a few domestic matches since moving to Glasgow, but not at the level of a team like Munich.

So, for him to perform so well and showcase what he is all about when he isn’t anywhere near his best yet is exciting for the Celtic faithful.

Taylor’s contract is expiring in the summer and there aren’t any signs that he will pen a new deal, with Kieran Tierney also returning to Celtic.

So, with Schlupp on loan, fans would love for him to sign on a permanent basis and be the guy to compete with Tierney for a starting spot next season.
