As the Celtic fans look forward to seeing their team take on Motherwell this afternoon, Brendan Rodgers has announced his starting lineup.
The team is as follows:
- Starting XI: SCHMEICHEL, JOHNSTON (c), TRUSTY, SCALES, VALLE, McCOWAN, BERNARDO, HATATE, FORREST, MAEDA, KYOGO
- On the bench: SINISALO, TAYLOR, PALMA, IDAH, KÜHN, YANG, CARTER-VICKERS, ENGELS, RALSTON
The Celtic defence picks itself. With Cameron Carter Vickers still injured and Auston Trusty having a superb game for the Hoops against Atalanta, the back four remains unchanged with Alistair Johnston named as the captain.
The midfield has a new look with Luke McCowan starting alongside Paulo Bernardo and Reo Hatae with a front three of James Forrest, Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi.
Celtic fans debated Luke McCowan and Arne Engels as Brendan Rodgers planned for Motherwell
Earlier this week 67 Hail Hail discussed how Celtic fans debated whether or not Luke McCowan should start ahead of Arne Engels for the Fir Park clash.
With Engels going off the boil slightly and McCowan making a great impact from his last few sub appearances, many Celtic fans were hoping that the former Dundee captain was going to start today’s game against Motherwell.
However, there were other fans who recognised that whilst Engels is just 20, he still needs time to adjust to playing for Celtic despite having a great start to his career after his £11m summer move from Augsburg.
Celtic’s starting line up vs Motherwell has caused big fan debate with Callum McGregor out of the team
Reacting the the team announcement, Celtic fans displayed their concerns after Callum McGregor was left out of the starting lineup with the captain’s armband being handed to Alistair Johnston.

One fan said, “Big calls today, just win Celtic. Hail Hail.” whilst another said, “No Cal Mac?? But he still travelled.”
A Celtic asked if the captain was injured, “No Callum McGregor is he injured?” while another fan was delighted that McCowan got his start and simply said, “Luke McCowan baby.”
Whilst this fan was delighted with the starting team, the question still remained:
Celtic will be hoping that the freshness brought to the team will be enough to win the three points and re-establish their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
