Five things we learned as Celtic officially hit crisis point after Premier Sports Cup defeat

Wilfried Nancy is on very thin ice after losing the Premier Sports Cup final against St Mirren.

The Frenchman is the only Celtic manager to lose his first two games in charge and has now headed into even murkier waters following a third consecutive loss.

Celtic were second best throughout and conceded inside two minutes. Reo Hatate equalised but that was about as good as it got as Stephen Robinson executed his game plan perfectly.

Fans made their thoughts and feelings clear about the board inside Hampden Park as the atmosphere has begun to turn sour.

With that, 67 Hail Hail have picked out five things we have learned from the defeat.

Is this the end for Wilfried Nancy?

The end for Wilfried Nancy already?

Question marks about the manager’s skillset were already being raised before kick-off. Those calls have become even louder now.

Despite bellowing orders from the touchline, the gestures and actions had all the signs of a person that knows that they are fighting a losing battle.

Sticking with the three-at-the-back formation, despite hinting at making changes, proved to be a costly error once more.

There will be some that already think there is no way back for the 48-year-old, even though he has been in the job for 11 days.

Celtic players should hang their heads in shame

Nancy will take the blame, rightly so, but so many of these players have been nothing short of disgraceful this past week.

Three defeats in a row is uncharted territory and while fingers can be pointed at the tactics deployed by the manager, when £11m signings and 33-goal strikers are incapable of making a five-yard pass or mustering any sort of chance on goal, there’s only so much blame the Frenchman can take.

Far too many of these players have been given an easy ride this season and the mistakes made today were unacceptable.

WHAT WAS KASPER SCHMEICHEL DOING?

Stephen Robinson showed Wilfried Nancy how to prepare

Everyone can admit that St Mirren deserved to win the final, and that was down to the work of Stephen Robinson.

He has proved to be a difficult opponent for Celtic at any club he has managed, but he showed up Nancy up in every department.

Robinson knew when to be pragmatic, knew when to change things and was there until the very end.

That belief and passion instilled into the players is exactly what Celtic are lacking and could learn a thing or two from.

Celtic are in crisis

Any doubts about whether the Hoops are in a crisis or not have been put to bed after the shambolic display.

A team completely devoid of any ideas, a fanbase and board who are at loggerheads with each other and the chance for things to capitulate even further.

This is unprecedented for a club like Celtic. Outsiders may say it screams of entitlement but, when you’ve won for so long, it is the only option.

How long this takes to fix is currently an answer on a postcard. It doesn’t look like it’ll be any time soon, but a solution must be found before this really spirals out of control.

Celtic must solve Kelechi Iheanacho injury issue

There was more frustration for Kelechi Iheanacho as he had no option but to be substituted in the first half after pulling up with a hamstring injury.

Iheanacho had only just returned from a hamstring problem against Roma on Thursday and looked like one of the only players to come out with any credit.

He was rewarded with a start and looked like one of the best players again before pulling up during a challenge with Richard King.

Losing him doesn’t add to the problem now that some of Celtic’s players will be at the Africa Cup of Nations. Taking him off was wise, but he needs to be kept fit at all costs.
