Five things we learned from Celtic’s win against Aberdeen including Wilfried Nancy passion and Kasper Schmeichel debate

Wilfried Nancy and Celtic can breathe a huge sigh of relief as they have finally stopped the rot.

Celtic beat Aberdeen 3-1 to end a run of four successive defeats and take some of the pressure off the Frenchman.

Andy Walker felt there would be no way back for Nancy if he lost but he had Benjamin Nygren, Kieran Tierney and James Forrest all pop up with goals.

This will hopefully be what kickstarts the 48-year-old’s career at Celtic Park, and 67 Hail Hail has picked out five key things we have learned from the important win.

What would your message be to Wilfried Nancy after that huge win?

Wilfried Nancy has that fire in his belly

As each goal went in, Nancy’s body language changed from someone looking calm and measured on the sideline to a person releasing all of his frustrations in one.

When Tierney’s winner found the back of the net, the manager threw both arms in the air and let out a roar.

Passion is what Celtic fans love and the Frenchman showed that in abundance. It rubbed off onto the players when they needed it most and got people over the line.

James Forrest continues to do the business

Some things never change, and James Forrest scoring for Celtic is one of those.

After leaving it until stoppage time last season, the winger decided to score for the 17th consecutive campaign.

That now leaves him one behind the legendary Jimmy McMenany (18 seasons) and level with Bobby Lennox.

Forrest has been a brilliant servant to the club, as proved by being Celtic’s most decorated player of all time.

A result over a performance

Yes, it wasn’t smooth at all times, but what was more important than anything else was that Celtic won today.

To do it flawlessly would have been an added bonus, however, the best way to kickstart a positive run of form is simply by getting a win on the board.

At one stage it looked like it wouldn’t happen, but the Bhoys will be relieved to get those coveted three points and hopefully build on it.

The end for Kasper Schmeichel?

Kasper Schmeichel will be a relieved man in the dressing room after almost costing the Hoops the win, and maybe sending Nancy packing.

Schmeichel’s weak wrists allowed Aberdeen to equalise and create a nervy end to the game.

It’s not the first time he has made a high profile error, or been called into question.

Now 39, Schmeichel is in the latter stages of his career. Viljami Sinisalo is ready and waiting in the wings. Should he be given a chance? Or should the Hoops be looking for a new goalkeeper?

Celtic need an out-and-out striker

Hugh Keevins singled out Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada before the game, saying that neither of them are good enough to play in the Scottish Premiership.

That may be a little too harsh, but the two are clearly not the most efficient of options.

Kenny missed another sitter in the first half, but looked isolated up top on his own, while Yamada struggled to do anything.

Celtic must go out and get an out-and-out striker who can lead the line, offer a physical presence, and take chances when they fall to them.
