‘He has to be braver…’ James McFadden slams Celtic duo during 3-3 draw at Dundee

Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Premiership table to 16 points on Tuesday night.

This came after Celtic’s 3-3 draw at Dundee where, the champions, despite leading twice, had to settle for a point after a sloppy defensive display.

Many will look towards the backline and how they will be kicking themselves for being error-prone and not being strong enough to defend their penalty box.

But Celtic should have had a cushion and, at the very least, doubled their lead after Luke McCowan opened the scoring after five minutes.

The champions let themselves down in the final third, allowed a front-foot Dundee side to stay in the fight and that’s where you look towards those further up the pitch.

Two men came under fire from James McFadden and you can’t argue against it.

Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo criticised as Celtic draw at Dundee

Adam Idah kept his place in the XI, with Daizen Maeda still out injured and Nicolas Kuhn only fit enough for the bench.

But, once again, the former Norwich City man struggled, including McFadden accusing the striker of not being ‘braver’ when failing to connect to a low Kyogo Furuhashi cross at 1-0.

Idah wasn’t the only one under fire because Paulo Bernardo’s header was saved at point-blank range and, once again, McFadden wasn’t happy with what he saw, as he told Sky Sports Football (14/01/25 at 8:55 pm).

“This should be, without a doubt, it should be a goal, Idah has to be braver (following a low cross from Kyogo which Idah missed),” said McFadden. “I know the goalie is coming out. Credit Trevor Carson, he does enough to put him off. But he misses it and he has to score.

“I think, this is the same. Bernardo with a header. Top of the head. A better connection. Get your forehead on it and get it into the back of the net. I think those should be goals.”

Idah’s stats for Celtic this season

When you play for a club like Celtic, the pressure on your shoulders is enormous, you can add a few more layers if you are a striker and then you add in the fact that you joined for a hefty fee.

That just adds to Idah’s problems, as of this moment, because he hasn’t scored in the Premiership since November and those critics are getting louder.

The Irishman can’t argue because he has been handed the starts, but as of this moment, he sits on five league goals and you are already past the New Year.
