How Jahmai Simpson-Pusey fared on his FC Koln debut after Celtic loan nightmare

It’s amazing that, as Celtic search for central defenders, they just allowed one talented player to leave after hardly providing him with a chance to prove his worth.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey joined Celtic from Manchester City in the summer on a season-long loan deal, and he was hoping to take the next step in his career.

Instead, from Brendan Rodgers to Wilfried Nancy, they hardly used the upcoming centre-back, and at times, didn’t even put him on the bench.

That’s why Simpson-Pusey left in January, before Martin O’Neill’s second return, and he joined FC Koln in the Bundesliga, where he has already got going.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey makes FC Koln debut after Celtic spell

Straight off the bat, Simpson-Pusey was handed his debut and first start by Koln on Saturday, ironically enough, playing in a back three.

Koln, who are sitting in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table, recorded a 2-2 draw against Heidenheim, and their new man at the back played the entire 90 minutes.

In Simpson-Pusey’s only game for Celtic, he was handed a 7.29 rating during the 4-0 win against Kilmarnock, and now he has been rated at 6.86 on his Koln debut.

Simpson-Pusey praised by FC Köln coach

Just like with Celtic and their backline, Koln have their own injury issues to deal with, and their manager, Lukas Kwasniok, spoke about it post-match.

As posted by Koln’s social media account, Kwasniok praised Simpson-Pusey for adapting to such a difficult situation.

“We haven’t even started complaining yet,” said Kwasniok about injuries.

“We’re glad that the players are willing to reinvent themselves. When you see what Sebulonsen and Simpson-Pusey played today, it’s worthy of all honour. We will find solutions.”
