James McFadden says benched Celtic star would provide ‘control’ to Wilfried Nancy’s manic style

Celtic fans are all smiles right now because the team is winning games again.

It has been a whirlwind start for Wilfried Nancy, who had the shock of his life when he lost his four games in charge of Celtic, including a League Cup final.

Whilst Celtic have secured back-to-back wins since, it was proven against Livingston, who are bottom of the table and struggling, that there is still a lot that needs to be worked on.

Amid the chaos of Nancy’s style of play, James McFadden put forward Reo Hatate’s name to cool things down for Celtic’s new manager.

Reo Hatate providing Celtic and Wilfried Nancy ‘control’

Hatate missed Celtic’s win over Aberdeen last time out, and he came off the bench against Livingston.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football, McFadden noted how this Celtic team needs a bit of ‘control’, and thinks Hatate can aid that.

But the former Scotland international has questioned how Nancy gets the Japan maestro back into his team, as Celtic face Motherwell on Tuesday night.

“You can see there are elements where the patterns of play are really good, and they can cause problems,” said McFadden.

“They still look vulnerable, even when they have the ball. That has to change. Looking for a bit of control.

“I think when Hatate comes on, he is the type of player that does control the tempo of the game. How do you get him in the team? Where is the best place to put him to be able to get that control?”

Hatate’s numbers and minutes under Nancy

Other than a few players, such as Callum McGregor, Auston Trusty, and Daizen Maeda, there has been a lot of chopping and changing from Nancy.

That has included Hatate being benched, but he was a regular starter in the other matches, including scoring for the Hoops against St Mirren in the League Cup final.
