These past few games have been a little tough for Hyunjun Yang in Celtic colours.
On one hand, Brendan Rodgers is showcasing a lot of faith in him by starting him in the last four Premiership matches and the Champions League last time out.
But ahead of Celtic welcoming Hibernian to Parkhead tonight, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Hyunjun Yang is benched after he was hooked off at half-time during the 3-1 win at St Johnstone over the weekend.
Brendan Rodgers was pretty ruthless in his actions and now John Hartson has told the 21-year-old to ‘react in the right way’ and to also showcase some ‘character’, as he told Go Radio.
There is every chance that Mikey Johnston will come in for Hyunjun Yang, and if that’s the case, then he can learn from his teammate – Chris Sutton felt the Irishman out-performed Yang in Perth.
Mikey Johnston hasn’t started a game this season, but in recent weeks, he has fought admirably to push for that start and now it’s time for Hyunjun Yang to do the same.
Will Brendan Rodgers drop Hyunjun Yang for Celtic v Hibernian?
“Brendan mentioned there that you need character,” said Hartson. “You need to be an influence.
“Yang needs to react in the right way if he is getting opportunities. We know we have seen glimpses of taking players on and getting crosses in. He is obviously a player that has got a little bit of talent.
“But he needs to do it more often, or else, he will find himself out of the team.”

Hyunjun Yang needs time at Celtic
There have been signs of promise from Yang and that’s the most important part.
Plus, Rodgers wouldn’t be showing so much faith in him if he wasn’t a very good player. He just needs time to blossom.
The South Korean star is on a ruthless platform where only winning is accepted. But if he manages to get on the ride, then he will learn a lot.
Just look at Matt O’Riley this season and the improvements he has made from the Treble-winning season because he has become a leader and consistent big-game player for Celtic.
