Kilmarnock defender ‘raging’ and shares what teammates think of Celtic’s late penalty

The late Celtic penalty against Kilmarnock still grabs the headlines this week.

Celtic’s win over Stuart Kettlewell’s side puts the Bhoys back on top of the Scottish Premiership just one goal ahead of second-placed Hearts.

With Rangers sitting in 10th after a defeat against the Tynecastle club, Celtic took advantage of that to go nine points ahead of their city rivals.

But it was the manner of Celtic’s win that sticks in the throat of those connected to Kilmarnock and now, defender Robbie Deas has his say.

Robbie Deas ‘speechless’ at Celtic’s penalty vs Kilmarnock

Deas was the Kilmarnock defender who deflected the ball off Lewis Mayo’s hand which led to VAR awarding the Celtic penalty.

And he reveals how he and his Killie teammates feel about that decision.

Deas told STV Sport, “I’ve seen it back. I don’t understand how it’s been given, but I’ve blocked the shot away from goal and Mayo’s not even half a yard away from me and it’s not changed… it’s put out for a throw.

“I’m a bit speechless. I’m raging inside, but it’s the ways of things unfortunately in football, so I can’t say it too much.”

Kilmarnock dressing room ‘gutted’ at late Celtic defeat

Deas then goes on to make a bizarre statement about referees as he reveals how the Celtic defeat has left his Kilmarnock teammates fuming.

Deas continued, “It’s frustrating, especially for myself as a defender. Look, I know the refs are trying to make it more interesting and all this stuff. They’ve obviously brought VAR and stuff like that.

“I think it’s just a sickener for us, especially in the manner of it.

“I thought we actually looked like the team that was going to go and win the game and then to go on and lose the game in that sort of manner is just an absolute sickener.

“I’m raging, the boys are gutted, but I think we can take a lot from the game and we can turn it into positives.”

Referees get enough stick without creating more by making things ‘more interesting’. Such a strange comment.

However, Celtic move on and League Cup business is up next as Brendan Rodgers looks to defend the trophy he has only lost out on once.
