Martin O’Neill believes that there was one player who deserved plenty of praise after his impact with the win against Falkirk.

Celtic beat John McGlynn’s side 3-1 in a big weekend for the Hoops that saw Rangers drop points and allow them to move up to second.

Daizen Maeda grabbed the headlines following an epic performance at Parkhead, but there was another player whom the 74-year-old singled out.

Martin O’Neill hails Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s impact vs Falkirk

For 10-15 minutes at the weekend, Celtic were forced to weather the storm as Kyrell Wilson pulled one goal back for the hosts.

In that moment, O’Neill had brought on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to replace Callum McGregor.

While he didn’t pull up any trees, the Celtic boss felt that he brought a level of calmness to the side that helped them get over the line.

“I think the introduction of, I know it was only for the last 15 minutes, but I thought that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain brought a calmness to us at the end of it,” the 74-year-old told Celtic TV. “Just to settle us down again and take it on from there.”
